School of the Built Environment
The School of the Built Environment is one of the UK’s leading institutions for multidisciplinary research and teaching in the built environment.
'We aim to attain excellence in the teaching of the core disciplines that contribute to a sustainable, resource and energy efficient built environment and are committed to undertaking high value, high impact research and knowledge transfer in topics of high societal relevance.'
Professor Gareth Pender
Head of School
We offer broad undergraduate education in four distinct, yet complementary disciplines: Architectural Engineering; Civil Engineering; Construction Management and Surveying; and Urban Studies.
We have an on-going commitment to high quality and innovative research as well as an evolving and well-established portfolio of taught postgraduate programmes. We have students from around the world studying full-time, part-time and by distance learning.
We undertake high-quality, high-impact research in a number of diverse areas related to the built environment. At least 50% of our research outputs were confirmed as world-leading or internationally recognised in the UK’s last Research Assessment Exercise.
