The School of the Built Environment at Heriot-Watt is the leading research institute of its kind in Scotland, pioneering innovative education across all of its disciplines, with the aim of providing relevant expertise across a range of sustainable and economically viable activities. It offers a unique range of educational opportunities involved in the planning, design, construction and development of environment and infrastructure to prepare and enable graduates to make a lasting impact on the built environment.

The School's research is at the forefront of the international research agenda in topics of relevance to sustaining and developing the built environment.

The School’s programme of multi-disciplinary research makes it an attractive destination for those seeking postgraduate research opportunities of direct relevance to solving real world problems in the built environment.
