Undergraduate programmes

The School of Built Environment regularly achieves good rankings in student satisfaction surveys such as the National Student Survey (NSS): in 2010, our Civil and Structural Engineering programmes were rated number 1 in Scotland and number 3 in the UK.

In keeping with the heritage of Heriot-Watt University, we offer high quality academic programmes underpinned by significant practical and laboratory experience, and informed by contact with professional practice. This leads to excellent employment prospects for our students.

All of our degree programmes hold the appropriate accreditation from the relevant professional bodies and meet all relevant academic requirements. As a student on one of our engineering programmes, you could benefit from a fast track to Chartered Engineer status through the MEng degrees in Civil, Structural and Architectural Engineering.

With a portfolio extending to include Urban Design and Construction Management, our broad coverage offers an exciting multidisciplinary study environment for all of our students.

  • Architectural Engineering

    Architectural Engineering

Sustainable low-carbon buildings are the future. Architectural engineers make use of the interaction between engineering services, building design and human behaviour to design appropriate low-energy indoor environments for buildings.

  • Civil & Structural Engineering

    Civil & Structural Engineering

Civil Engineering is the art of working with the great sources of power in nature for the use and benefit of society. Now is the time for an engineering renaissance, the time to build and maintain the critical infrastructure upon which civilisation depends.

  • Construction Management & Surveying

    Construction Management & Surveying

Construction Management & Surveying is explicitly linked to the built environment we live, work and play in. We explore how to deliver construction projects achieving excellence in design, function, quality construction and financial cost control.

  • Urban Studies

    Urban Studies

Urban Studies is concerned with land and property development, housing and urban planning and management. Our graduates make a real and positive difference to the future form and sustainability of our towns and cities.
